“Lilliana, please,” Evelyn begged, her voice barely above a whisper now. “Tell me this isn’t real.”
But instead, Lilly took a step closer, her expression calm—too calm.
“You want proof?” she asked, tilting her head slightly. “You want to know that I’m not just making this up? Fine.”
Evelyn swallowed thickly as Lilly continued, her voice softer now, almost nostalgic.
“When I was little, you used to hold me close sometimes,” she said, her tone unreadable. “You would hum a song under your breath. A song that you never sang out loud. Just a quiet melody.” She paused. “You only did it when you thought I was asleep.”
