One blue eye, one brown, both staring straight at us. Suddenly, he howled, a deep, aching sound and bolted toward us.

I held my cigarette between my fingers and didn't look up. Thousands of vehicles drove off, and the sky gradually grew dark. Ethan slammed his fist against the table, his eyes bloodshot. "The blizzard will hit in ten minutes. They'd just throw their lives away if they head up that mountain now. Are they out of their minds?"

A second voice called. “Get road blacks set up twenty miles in every direction! No rout will be open to them and stop every damned vehicle!” Beta Peter shouted over the line. I went to the direction of the blue sedan though, hoping that there was some clue as to where they went. The back roads were all but clear on my way there, the only thing I saw was a low flying crop duster, skimming a field as I went by. When I got to the sedan, there were to warriors already combing through it. “Anything?” I went and joined them, sniffing the trunk and confirming Melody had been there.
