Friday July 20th, 2018; 9pm (Cole’s POV) I wake suddenly with a gasp, nearly falling from my seat as the smooth black top road turns into the crunchy vibrations of a graveled roadway. I blink several times, clearing my eyes enough to see the sign, ‘Welcome to White Ridge, A Gated Community’. “Wait,” I suddenly gasp in a panic. “We’re supposed to be going to the Black Moon pack.” “Easy there, Cole. Everything is okay.” Jamie’s voice is calm but assertive as he tries to break through my increasing panic.

Another voice suddenly cut into the call. Marcus. “Our girl is strong as fuck,” he said firmly. “So fucking trust her.” Something warm twisted painfully in my chest hearing that. Brian nodded once to himself before continuing. “There’s an old barn out near the pass on 62/180. Take the Butterfield Trail exit. It’s several miles back in there so you won’t see it from the highway, but once you hit the right road, you can’t miss it.” His expression darkened. “They’re likely gonna be heavily armed and heavily manned. So be prepared.”

“Welcome to the Dark Lands. We’ll pitch this stuff back through the gate, then I’ll take you up to the Citadel and introduce you around.” Dazed, she looked at him, blinked when she noticed him stripping off his sweater. Underneath was a black leather vest that buckled across his chest. A red embroidered Celtic knot decorated his left breast. She recognized the black pants from this morning, but she’d never seen the weapons belt he buckled on, or the gun in the low holster against his right thigh. A silver dagger hilt rode his left hip. She stared. He grinned. “Standard uniform, you’ll be seeing a lot of it. Come on, let’s go blow your mind.”

“To end this foolish war. You and I both know this cannot last forever, Elara. Come to me—face me at the Black Hollow. We will settle this once and for all.” A shiver ran down my spine at the name. The Black Hollow was an ancient, cursed land, a place where the veil between realms was thinnest. Raven took a step forward, his expression darkening. “If you refuse, I will keep hunting you. I will destroy everything you have rebuilt. Your mother, your people, your precious Kael... I will burn them all.” A growl rose in my throat. “You’ll regret underestimating me.” He let out a low chuckle. “We’ll see.”

“Thanks for what exactly?” ….. In an alleyway somewhere in the slums, closer to the Cyss Empire territory. A few figures were gathered, some stood up and some sat down. “So this is the crystal we’re looking for?” Asked a man who wore a tuxedo-like suit with a cape covering his shoulders and back. He held a picture in his hand. “Yes, it is located somewhere in Blackwood Mountain.” Said the elderly woman. “Where exactly?” “You are supposed to be professionals, right? I’m sure you’ll figure it out.”

Rihanna explained. Reshuffling? How many hideouts did he have to reshuffle? One at Red Moon had been deserted. The one besides Black Hills was were the last fight happened. Where else? “Somewhere between Black Hills and Blue Fire!” Rihanna announced. What? Such place existed? Blue Fire was around a volcano, no one lived between the hills or the volcano. There was no way to stay alive. “It isn’t much but yeah, that’s where a homeless wolf, looking for a strong and less conspicuous place, will stay.”

A runner cut through the line toward me, his pace uneven but urgent, and he stopped just long enough to deliver what I already knew was coming from the look in his eyes. “Alpha, we’ve confirmed her location,” he reported, his voice tight as he struggled to keep pace. I didn’t stop moving, but my attention locked onto him completely. “Where?” “Deep inside Blackwood dungeons,” he answered, keeping up beside me as we moved. “Lower levels, heavily guarded, restricted access. We can’t reach her from here without breaking through everything ahead.” The words settled fast, and I didn’t need time to think about what they meant because the picture was already forming in my head, clear enough to act o

Kael read the letter over my shoulder and swore. “It’s a trap,” he said. “Obviously,” Kade said, pacing the war room. “But we need to know what they know.” I folded the letter and stood up. “Then we go. Together.” Kade stopped pacing. “You’re not going alone, Aria.” “I know,” I said. “That’s why you’re coming.” Kael grinned. “About time we crashed a party.” --- Blackridge territory was two days’ ride south.

Upon saying that, Adrian turned around and left. It was to be a very close, intense operation. As Gloria gazed after Adrian’s departing silhouette, she said, “Get ready, everyone. We’ll depart in an hour.” The group returned to the base and packed up their equipment in preparation to head to Bloody Rose an hour later. Bloody Rose was located in the outlands of Navia while Azure Creek’s location was on the moat, so it was not far from Bloody Rose. One could reach there in roughly two hours by helicopter.
