And I was going back. I wiped my eyes with the back of my hands and forced myself up off the counter. I had to be strong. Papa wouldn’t want this. I packed enough for a couple days and before I knew it, I was getting off a plane and walking down the runway in a trance. It all went by in a hazy blur. I didn’t remember leaving my apartment, let alone getting on a plane, but here I was, just outside the airport. I hailed a cab and told the driver where I was going. He chuckled and raised a bushy black eyebrow. “Blackwater, eh? I don’t think I’ve ever been,” he leaned closer to the rear view mirror and lowered his voice. “I’ve heard rumors about the people there.” I perked up. “Really?” I was cu

It looked like they had not expected her to make it this far. The Council leader turned to Kyle, and he nodded back gravely. The judge then held out his thumb, and turned it down. As he did, a huge metal door opened, and out came a single warrior. He was clad in all black armor, with a black helmet, holding a sword and a shield. Caitlin could sense, even from this distance, that he was not human. It was a vampire, and a formidable one. This frightened her more than all the rest.

It was a fighter, a warrior. The leader of the rogues snarled, his eyes flashing. "Who are you?" he shouted, his voice trembling with fear. "I am Darius Blackmaw. I am the Alpha of the Blackrock Pack." The black wolf did not react. He only shifted, a quiet, silent specter who attacked without warning. He was a force of nature, a whirlwind of teeth and claws. "Black Tiger; the Bhayangkara special forces of the Swarnabhumi kingdom. What's wrong, are you afraid of me?" He smiled a little. "Bhayangkara? I don't know about that army. Are they a bunch of fools?" Naraka Pati quipped with a chuckle.

Minutes later, the door opened to admit the stranger: a sleek gray wolf shifting to human form mid-stride, revealing a woman in her thirties, athletic build, clad in rain-slicked leathers. Her hair was raven-black, eyes a piercing green that scanned the room like a predator assessing threats. Chains bound her wrists—precautionary—held by two enforcers. She bowed her head slightly, respect tinged with wariness. "Alpha Blackwood. I'm Kira, emissary from the Shadowclaw Pack. We heard the battle—felt the shift in power. Hanlon was our enemy too; he owed us debts, spilled our blood in secret deals."
