There was a nervous tilt to her shoulders, and her fingers played with the edge of the fabric.
I rose, brushing grass from my long, patterned skirt. “You look pale. Are you sick? Should we go to the Grove so I can make something for you?”
Clara forced a smile, though it flickered. “No, not at all. I need to speak with you. Alone.”
Concern prickled through my body. I glanced toward Luna, who was still chasing her fireflies, then nodded. “Alright, let’s take a walk then.”
We moved toward the quieter edges of the clearing, where the trees grew thick and the air smelled of pine. I waited, giving Clara the silence she needed to gather her courage.
