It’s possible something deadly could come through. We watch, holding our breath as the black hole appears and begins to grow. It stops expanding when it’s barely taller than a man, just like the one on Alcatraz. The blackness seems less dense and not quite as well-formed this time. The surface of the dark sphere looks a bit ragged, too.

"Jun, I need the Targeting-Matrix locked on the lead dreadnought’s cooling vents!" "I'm trying, Kaz!" Jun’s voice was a frantic chorus of data-stutter. "But the Action-Horror is too much—they aren't just firing lasers; they're firing Compressed-Singularities (miniature black holes). If one touches us, we aren't just dead; we're erased from the timeline!"

It wants to come out, wants this threat, wants blood. I tell it, not yet. I put Selene behind me as I stand up straight. SCRAPE, SCRAPE, SCRAPE. It's circling. Can't see where it's coming from. That's bad. Real bad. Then the middle—big, black hole that is in the center—starts to move. Heat comes out of it. And something starts to rise. So slow. So huge. So wrong.
