I'm about to pick it up and toss it back in the shelf when I stop, looking at the open page. An image of a hooded man, dressed in a black coat, swinging a scythe in one hand stares back at me. "The tale of the three wolf packs..." I whisper, reading the caption underneath.

The wind swept through the forest with a haunting whistle, carrying the scent of gunpowder and blood. The ragged group, now nestled deep within the shadowed woods, reassembled with grim determination. Most were blurs of motion, but one captured Liora mid-turn, her eyes glowing a faint, ethereal silver.

"Where?" Liora focused. The stones pushed an image into her mind. A place about three miles to the east, where a creek cut through a steep ravine. A place of shadows and old, tangled roots. "The Blackroot Ravine," she whispered. "I know it," Ashiel said, his face grim. He was pulling on his heavy winter tunic. "It's a nasty place. Easy to defend. Hard to approach."

Landed on me. He licked his lips. My stomach tightened. “We’re here for the human,” he said. “The little Luna.” A chill crawled up my spine. “You’ve trespassed on Blackmoon land,” Lucian said, ignoring the jab. “That is already a mistake. You won’t make a second.” Rogue number two chuckled, shifting his weight, hands flexing. “We heard you had a problem,” he said. “Thought we’d be good neighbors and… remove it for you.”

The water itself was a dazzling turquoise, its crystal clarity reflecting the vibrant hues of the surrounding foliage. A majestic willow tree stood sentinel at the water's edge, its slender branches stretching out like nature's own cathedral, creating a secluded cove that beckoned invitingly. Further back, a charming cottage nestled among a bed of silver rose bushes, its black and silver facade echoing the elegant design of my home, albeit on a more intimate scale. Roxy's eyes sparkled with enchantment as she took in the serene beauty of the Lagoon, her gaze drifting from one wonder to the next, her very presence seeming to radiate a sense of magic and possibility.

Do you know something?” I quickly asked with a sudden interest. “Yes, as a matter of fact, I do.” He raised his gaze, looking at me deadly serious. “Okay then, tell us about it.” I encouraged him to speak further, while Kara also turned around to face him. “At the RedMoon masion. I’ve heard they need some extra maids.” He then spoke, lowering his gaze back to the mug.
