My fingers immediately curl around the door handle, and I push the handle open. That is when I see the blood first. Then the men laying on the floor with the blood dripping out of their necks. I look around, and that is when I finally see Nova. Her hands are curled into fists, and there is blood dripping out of her hands. She is breathing hard, and her chest rises and falls with such power that I haven't seen in a long time. There is something different about her. Her demeanor, the way she even stands. Her skin seems to glow, and I can't help but wonder if we are both fighting at the same time.

Moana’s POV The morning sun did not bring warmth to the Blackthorn Valley, but it brought clarity. The pale, winter light spilled over the high stone battlements, illuminating the sheer scale of the devastation. The air was dead silent, save for the rhythmic, metallic crunch of shovels breaking through frost-bitten earth and the low, collective murmur of a pack trying to piece itself back together.

I shift uncomfortably on the bed. "Where am I ?"I ask feeling very irritable. "Miss you are in the Blood moon pack territory is all I can say ,"She gives me a grim look . "Blood moon?"i repeat. What in the world is that name? I think I'm going totally crazy . "Alpha Black will explain everything to you ,"she responds . "Alpha Black ,"I stutter . These terms are killing me . Alpha? Pack? Blood moon ? I hope I didn't land myself in a secret cult because that would be worse than living with my abusive father .

For one luminous second I felt what a real future with him might be—not easy, never easy, but chosen daily with claws sheathed and throats unguarded by mutual consent. The black heart screamed. The false throne collapsed into the black water. The future dissolved. And then, with the fury of a predator denied every easier kill, the landscape ripped open one final time. Moonlight flooded everything silver-white. A full moon rose enormous and close enough to touch. Bones shifted under skin. Wolves howled. And as Ty’s wolf and Neeka both surged to the front at once, I understood the next battleground with a terror that tasted almost holy: the black heart was coming for our wolves themselves.

I heard him grab Lila's wrist, heard pine needles crunch under boots, then forest swallowed them. I didn't look back.Inside, I spread the contract parchment flat. Two hours to midnight. Blood moon would peak. Assignment would lock. No ritual, no blood, no wanting could undo it. I could go south. Marshlands. Territory that never knew my name.I didn't reach for the knife. Just sat. By destroying every pack that supports it." She raised her hands. The symbols on the cave entrance glowed brighter. And from the darkness behind her, a hundred shadow creatures emerged. We were surrounded. Outnumbered. And I realized—we might not survive this.

The snow didn’t touch him, but the world around him seemed to bend anyway—like kings didn’t obey weather. “Believe,” he said. “And then act.” My throat went dry. I wasn’t sure if he meant strategy. Or if he meant the way his hand slid to the back of my neck, fingers threading into my hair with a possessive restraint that made my knees weaken. “We need a place to go dark,” I said, forcing my brain back into survival mode before my body did something stupid like melt into the arms of a vampire king while the Council hunted us. “Power. Bandwidth. Zero trace. A black site.”

Then he looked at us, something unreadable burning behind his eyes. “This,” he said slowly, his voice rough, “isn’t some sick prank This is a summoning.” My chest went cold. Pelin frowned, hugging herself. “Summoning… what?” Aziz shifted his weight, his hair falling into his eyes as he studied the bloody circle. “A Marid. The black kind.” The word was foreign on his tongue, harsh and heavy. “What is that supposed to mean?” I asked, my voice felt so weak. His gaze flicked to me, holding mine until I felt pinned to the mattress. “A jinn. A supernatural creature from the obsidian dimension. They come in colors—blue, red, black. The black ones are the strongest.”
