Her presence is ruining it. "Cas!" she yells again. "Enough!" I grind my teeth, my arms shaking, and look back down to the man. He's stopped moving, dead from blood loss. Snapping his neck won't do anything now. Damn. What a waste. Mariam takes a few steps forward with her hands held out. She licks her lips nervously. "Let him go, Cas," she says slowly. "He's dead. Come on, honey. Come down from that mountain. Follow me down here, please?"

Lucas asked, his voice low and even. Casey hesitated, unsure how to respond to why she fell from the tree into the spring; her gaze darted between Lucas's imposing figure and the darkness beyond the spring, her mind racing. Water droplets clung to her lashes as she weighed her options, her voice caught in her throat. She hadn't seen him in an orphanage before; he must be a member of the M base, but she was unsure of his position in the base. She slowly slid down to hide half of her face underwater calmly so only her calm, cold eyes could be seen.

Cassie took a step forward, lifting her chin slightly as her presence seemed to command the entire space. “The project the people of Sta. Cristina have long dreamed of…” she said, her tone softening just enough to carry the weight of that dream, “will finally be realized.” Her eyes sharpened again as they locked onto the two men before her. “But not through the hands of those who sought to exploit it,” she added coldly. A beat of silence passed—tense, expectant. Then, with quiet power, she declared, “I am Cassidy Greene, Chairman of the Malakai Group of Companies. And I will personally oversee this project.”

we turned to see the two men leaving the clearing. Clint starts to rewind the feed, "they were talking about us, about Paige." he stops the recording and presses play. The unknown asshole waits until Blackthorne is dressed. "The order has sent a team they do not mind losing. The Huntress is an embarrassment that I am sure they would like us to rid them of, and the rest of the team are from the lower end of the gene pool, all bred to be workers, but by some twist of fate. They managed to pass training, the whole team could be wiped out with no repercussions from the order."

But I was here on a mission, and I was not going to leave until I had accomplished it. “Sir,” The voice pulled me from my thoughts, and I looked to see that it was Zane. “I tried to get Cassie to talk, but she does not trust us,” He explained as he made his way over to me. Now standing not far, he stopped. “But I did some digging myself. And you have no idea what I found out.” He had my full attention now. He took a sip of my drink and nodded. “What are you waiting for? Tell me.”

“So you think the Guardians that are still in there are in danger from them, too, or just the demons?” “All of ‘em. They’ll gitcha same as the others if you ain’t careful.” She must’ve seen my face melt so she added. “Don’t you worry about them fellas, though. Jaime’s a crack shot with the blue lights. That’s the craziest thing I ever did see. And I seen a lot a craziness. I’m Heather, by the way.” I realized I’d been rude not to have introduced myself and thank her already. I stood and walked over to her, offering her my hand. She got up and peered into my eyes as she shook it. “Cassidy. Nice to meet you. Finally.”

I hurriedly wiped the tears off my my face, sniffling. “You don't have to clean your tears, child.” Cassidy entered, her steps slow and careful. She looked exhausted. Her skin was pale, dark circles adorning her wrinkled eyes. Her hair was dampened with sweat, yet she stood tall. I swallowed hard. “What are you doing here?” I demanded, my voice almost unrecognizable. “Why are you roaming free in our pack? After everything you did? After Alexa?”

A gasp escaped my lips as I witnessed her transformation, my heart caught between disbelief and awe. Cassidy's features shimmered with an otherworldly radiance, her eyes glowing with an inner fire.
