His cold eyes, grinning lips, his presence screamed nothing but death. The demon growled. I scanned the place and all I see was thick smoke and it was stopping me. “Are you really going to do this the hard way?” A female reaper appeared beside him. “Why don’t you just let a sealer do her job?” She shook her head. They didn’t look like they could see me. “Mind your business.” He clicked his tongue and ran rapidly toward the demon. He leaped high and swung his scythe onward from behind slicing the demon vertically into half. He landed on his feet. He put his scythe over his shoulder, turned around, and walked away. The female reaper shrugged and followed him.

Blood darkens his fur. He doesn’t make a sound. The cut doesn’t slow him. I duck under a snapping jaw and roll, coming up on one knee with my second blade already up. I strike again. Deeper. Cleaner. This is familiar. The burn in my arms. The narrowing of my vision. The way the rest of the world drops out when my body remembers what it’s for.

John inspected his blades and stroked them, especially admiring the sterling silver engraving that showed up as soon as he held them in his hands. The Blades recognized their Master, their Creator. They had long, curved blades—Sokolov "Reapers"—that glinted like mercury in the moonlight.

But Narek howled out in agony and at the same time, Odin bound Clyde with some sort of dark magic. Aman yet again, dug a knife into Narek's back as he staggered and spurt out blood. The blade tip came out through the back and stayed just before his stomach. My eyes widened at such a gruesome scene and as Narek fell to the floor weakly, blood oozing out of his wounds, Clyde released a thunderous roar as Sylvia stood in the air, seeping all of his energy from his body. The runes on Clyde's body began to wipe off and disappear into the bright beam of light that was moving towards Sylvia's body

The blade passed harmlessly through, leaving nothing but rippling darkness in its wake. Kael didn’t stop. He pivoted instantly, dragging his blade back across the arc where the figure reformed. This time, he infused the strike with everything he had—speed, force, and a raw edge of fury that burned through his veins. The shadows recoiled. Not much. But enough. A faint ripple—like something real had been touched. “There you are,” Kael muttered. Behind him, Lira darted forward, her twin blades flashing as she slashed through the lingering tendrils. “So it can be hit,” she said, breath steady despite the tension. “That’s something.”
