(Harper’s POV) The angel blade glowed as I reached for it. I pulled it from the hilt on my thigh and spun, slicing the now fully lit up blade through the two vamps that were closing in on me. They barely had time to recognise that their time was up before the light left their eyes and their demon blood burnt them up from the inside.

The connection of my big fists against their bones filled the air for a few moments. Every blow I landed came at a cost; their claws tore at my skin, my muscles screamed in protest, and I knew I couldn’t hold out much longer. But I didn’t stop. I couldn’t. With a final burst of strength, I pulled out my silver blade, drove the blade deep into the chest of the first vampire. He let out a choked gasp before collapsing in a heap. The second hesitated, glancing between me and his fallen comrade. His hesitation was his downfall. I lunged forward, the tip of my blade finding its mark. He crumpled to the ground beside the first.

Tangerine demanded, on guard. The man held up his hands in a peaceful gesture. "My name is Blade. I'm a hunter, but I'm not here to fight you. I'm here to help." Tangerine eyed him warily. "Why should I trust you?" Blade sighed. "I know you don't trust hunters, but I'm not like the others. I've been tracking the rogue vampires, and I know that they're planning something big. Something that could destroy everything." Tangerine frowned. "What do you mean?"

Other people moved to help her, but I didn’t move. Blood splattered across the ground. She cried out as the vampire cut through her clothes. Then, she grunted and flipped it over, pulling a shining silver blade out of somewhere and driving it between the vampire’s eyebrows with a sharp grunt of exertion. My jaw dropped open as the vampire screeched and shook. The blade of the dagger glowed bright red as the body went still and began to disintegrate. She tucked the blade back into her holster with a grimace before looking over at Cillian.

The True Vampire hissed, pressing his advantage, his fangs elongating. ​A white-armored boot slammed into the vampire’s chest. ​The impact launched the creature ten feet backward into the mud. Vesh stepped in front of me, his obsidian blade sweeping out to sever the vampire’s head before it could rise. ​Vesh didn't look back at me. "Keep your guard up, Blackwood. I won't always be there to babysit." ​I grit my teeth, pushing myself up from the mud. "I didn't ask for your help."
