Maeve We have spent one week in the hybrid village. I haven't recovered entirely yet, and I'm not sure if I ever will. We are giving the magical healing thing one more day before giving up and accepting that I'm blind. The world is scary when everything is dark, but things still feel light even if my vision is gone. Like my feet when I'm around Wyatt. We have talked things out and decided to become a couple. Even though I'm blind, he is still the sexiest man on earth.

She could hear the whispers, the lustful comments, the hungry gazes she couldn't see but felt burning into her skin. "Take off her blindfold!" a voice shouted from the small audience. It was a command, not a request, and the room fell silent for a moment. She felt the rough hands of the men as they fumbled with the cloth, and then, abruptly, the world exploded into blinding light. She blinked rapidly, her vision slowly adjusting to the harshness. Shapes became faces, and faces became monsters.

Inside, it’s everything I need it to be. Dark and loud and blindingly alive. Colored lights flash over the crowd, blue, red, violet, casting strangers in shifting shadows. The beat shakes the floor, climbs into my bones, and starts to burn away everything I’m tired of carrying. The judgment. The silence. The weight of being someone I never asked to be.

There are days when I wonder what the world around me looks like, what the prey I eat looks like, I even wonder what my mate looks like but I'll never ask because I know that although I am blind and most likely odd looking I will never stand alone. For I am blinded but not deaf, I am blinded but not alone, I am blinded and I will always have a place within this world.

I reach for the noise-canceling headphones and a thick, padded silk blindfold. Eve watches me, her brow furrowing slightly as she recognizes the tools. "No ropes?" she ask, disappointment clear in her voice. "Not tonight." I return to her, holding the blindfold like a consecration. "Tonight, I don't want to restrain your body. I want to restrain your world. I want to take away the inputs until the only thing left is me." She tilts her head, intrigued. Trusting. "Turn around." She turns and I fasten the blindfold securely. It’s wide, blocking out every photon of light.

I wiped the sweat off my forehead and I turned on the lights. When I glanced at my phone it was only 2.am in the morning. It was just a nightmare. I sighed deeply and slumped on the bed.
