Alex replied, flipping through to find the one in question. He made his way over to the calendar, a thick red marker in one hand. He drew a circle, marking the spot. "The first day of Winter. The Solstice." Mom breathed. "It's almost poetic." Alex confirmed. I just stared, the circle on the calendar mocking me. It was like the blood pack had scheduled us in for an appointment, like we'd been booked in for slaughter. It made my blood boil, I could all but hear the rush in my ears like a thunderous roar. I was vibrating with anger, the venom of rage coursing through my veins.
