Riven was darker, heavier, smoke, leather, and heat, curling around me like the promise of something I shouldn’t want but couldn’t stop thinking about.
The bond inside me was a living thing now, prowling through my veins, restless and hungry. It had been bad enough under the moonlight, but away from the crowd, away from the torches and the high priestess’s voice, it grew sharper, more demanding. My skin prickled, every nerve alive and aching.
I pushed away from the door and crossed to the bed, my bare feet silent against the floor. The air in the room felt warmer than it should have. I wanted to pace, to shake this feeling off, but the ache deep in my body kept me still.
