I almost instantly leaned forward and vomited a black slimy substance on Darius after what I saw dangling in front of me registered in my mind. I heard someone yell "fucking bitch" from somewhere in the room but the voice was drowned out by the sound of the my blood spinning like a hurricane through my veins. My temporary muteness lifted immediately because I could clearly hear myself scream. My body jittered like a leaf in a storm as I screamed again, my vocal cords threatening to tear. This time I was screaming a name as I stared into the decapitated head of the one guard who had sworn on his life to protect me. His lifeless eyes were staring into mine.

"This is not a war!" Uisdean screamed, a high pitiful sound, as he fell to the carpet and began to shake. His pale skin reddened and rolled as if there were bubbles beneath it. I gaped as blood poured from his ears in a boiling tide and sizzled when it hit his hair. The acrid smell of burnt hair and blood wafted over to me.

Free me. I grit my teeth, blood running between them as they stretched, lengthened, sharpened. Pain shot through my jaw, bone splitting with a sick crack. I screamed again, though it sounded less like a man’s scream and more like something inhuman clawing its way out of my chest.

Arito's chanting didn't cease, and I felt it again, a sharp object, definitely a blade, cutting into my flesh. The metallic scent of blood drifted into the air. My blood. I could feel it sliding slowly down my skin, warm against the coldness of the chamber. Tears clouded my vision as I bit my bottom lip, suppressing a scream. "It is done.” I heard him say, and immediately I yanked my hand away, utterly petrified. The veil was lifted from my face, and light flooded my vision so suddenly that I blinked against it, my pulse hammering violently in my ears.

Now shaking violently, she let out a prolonged scream. Like a fission bomb, strong waves broke out of her and exploded in the park, pushing everything and everyone from their position, and throwing them to different places. She screamed ceaselessly for close to a minute as her rage kept growing. Both creatures and humans bled through their ears at the sound of the sonic scream. The sonic scream was powerful enough that it burst the vampires that heard it and weakened the humans who heard it, making some humans swoon.

The room begins to spin, darkness creeping at the edges of my vision. In one final act of desperation, I drive my elbow into his side with as much force as I can muster. A strangled grunt escapes him, his grip loosening just enough for me to suck in a sharp gasp of air. Without hesitation, I let out a bloodcurdling scream.

A scream bubbled up in my throat, but it was trapped, unable to escape as the figure reached out, its hand closing around something just out of sight. And then the screams started. They were bloodcurdling and raw, cutting through the thick air like a knife. The sound was so visceral, so filled with agony that it chilled me to my core. I wanted to turn away, to cover my ears and block it all out, but I couldn’t. I was forced to watch as blood began to pool on the floor, thick and dark, seeping toward me like an inkblot spreading across paper.

A few minutes later, Astrid looked so terrified, and suddenly she dug her fingers into my shoulder, not out of fear but out of pain. “He’s…..he’s pulling through.” She let a chunk fall from her mouth. “No, no, no, no, no……fight him, Astrid, fight him and stay awake. Stay with me, please.” I pressed my forehead against her as tears came down profusely. I wept like a child. But Astrid was no longer hearing me. Her body jerked violently as she struggled to breathe. I opened my mouth and screamed. The sound tore out of my throat raw and piercing, louder than anything I had ever produced. It filled the entire room, bouncing off the stone walls and wooden beams until it felt like the air itself vibrated. The scream kept coming, high and desperate, until my throat burned raw and my vision blurred with hot tears. It was so loud it deafened my own ears, ringing painfully inside my head.
