I swallow hard and read aloud.

“You never told me that, baby girl?” Christian’s voice floats my way as Jenny nudges me gently and nods across the aisle. I had finally gotten into my book after all and blanked them all out as I was pulled into a magical world of Vampires and Werewolves fighting over human girls. I look up nonplussed, catching Arrick glancing my way with that infuriating unreadable expression and yet a softness to his face that I haven’t seen in a long time. He almost looks a little bit happy and it just makes me feel shittier.

"I'm nothing close to that, Katherine." "In that case, why don't you just say it straight? I'm not good at guessing." Slowly, he advanced. His precise, heavy steps echoed in the whole room. I blinked. Then he's in front of me. "I am between life and death, Katherine. I don't die, but I'm not breathing either." I felt shivers ran down my spine. I can feel his eyes like cold silver piercing through me. Small, strange noises distracted me. I looked down and rolled my eyes. The floor... was cracking!

yhe window as I looked past the road contained by various people and cars. I know, I know, this chapter is whack. I think I'm going to take a break from Echoes because I'm really having a block. I don't know when next I would update but please bear with me. I don't want to write due to pressure so as not to ruin the book for you and I. Also, there is something important here so don't think too much of the boring chapter. It happens 😂😂

The bond flared, weak but steady, a light in the darkness. He was inside. Hurting. Waiting. I moved through the building like a ghost, my footsteps echoing in the empty halls. The floors were littered with debris, the walls stained with water and time, the only light the pale gray of dusk filtering through broken windows. But I knew where I was going. The bond pulled me forward, a thread I couldn't see but followed without hesitation.

“Picture it. The color. The feel. Wrap it around you in your mind. Let it ground you.” To the glass: “Subject is responding to tactile memory. Recommending positive anchoring.” Silence followed. Then Vance: “Begin Echo Phase.” A soft hum pulsed through the room, low and invasive. The lights dimmed and flickered. Amira winced, her grip tightening on the chair. The Echo Protocol had begun. Isabella swallowed hard. “Amira. That sound is meant to confuse you. Don’t let it in. Stay with me. Think of your brother’s scarf. Focus on the color. Feel it. I’m here. You’re real.”
