“Naw,” Porcius said, mouth full of deer. “All the bigger pieces of artillery and machines are slower to reach us. Thousands stayed for that deliberate trek. A boring assed walk for true, but better than quick time marches any day.”
Rufus asked his master, “Will the beasts come again tonight?”
All eyes went to August, “The leaders seem to think that they won’t, confident that the numbers of this portion of the Legion will scare them away.”
