Laying there, I taste something bitter like metal in my mouth and when I turn my head to the side, I see blood on the floor. There is a constant throbbing in the back of my head and neck, but what concerns me the most is that I don't feel my lower body. I try to get up and will my arms to move, but the cold tiles have made them numb and I barely feel them at all. After what seems like an eternity, I regain the strength in my arms and push myself up to a sitting position.

Her ankles were similarly restrained. An IV line ran into her left arm. She could see the bag of clear fluid hanging above her, dripping steadily into her vein.

The guy by the door moves. He grabs the back of my ruined hoodie and yanks me out of the chair. The tape holding my left wrist snaps. The adhesive tears a strip of skin right off my forearm.

I was confused, I didn't understand what was going on at all. “Stop thinking too much. The answer will come to you.” Heather said. “Now let me see what I can do about your leg, come on. Let's go to the storage room before you have no blood to bleed again. She pooped a hand under my armpit then threw my arm across my shoulders then helped me stand up, “wait for me.” Thomas said then did the same with the second arm. I was thankful for their help because I didn't need to do much and it relieved the pressure I was putting on my good leg. They carried me until we got to the storage room

Closing my eyes again, I breathe in the clean woodsy smell of Atlas' soap. "Here, drink this," the room is dark so I can't see the gentle hands that hold me and help me drink a large glass of orange juice but I can see the bright white bandage that some used to carefully wrap my arm. "The glass hit a large vein, which is why you were bleeding so badly," she explains, sounding almost like a professional nurse, or someone who spends a lot of time around them. "You are lucky you aren't anemic. Pregnancy can do that to you sometimes."

I leaned against the wall for a second, a wave of dizziness washing over me. I gave nearly two pints of blood. My body is strong, but even I am not immune to the physical drain. I roll up my left sleeve, looking at the crook of my elbow. A dark purple bruise is forming where the needle went in. I run my thumb over it. It throbs, a dull ache that matches the one she must be feeling in her arm. Good.

“A..are you all right?” Instinctively, I step back. Suddenly, I feel a sharp pain in my arm and I wince. I look at my arm and my heart sinks as I notice a tiny droplet of blood. My vision begins to blue. I blink rapidly, trying to clear the haze but it's no use. I stare at my arm as it starts to churn and ripple like water. I feel my knees buckle as I try to stand. Disoriented, I shake my head, scrubbing my eyes with trembling hands.

My vision flickered and spots of black clouded my sight, but I did not know why. It could not be grief, could it? That would be too humiliating. 'Lana Branch, you really misjudged him, didn't you?'

As I hang here, suspended in the air, my wrists bear the weight of my entire body, causing a dull ache to radiate through my arms. The sensation is intensified by the tightness that encircles my wrists, constricting them like an invisible vice grip. It feels as if my blood struggles to flow freely, hindered by the unyielding pressure.

My entire body shook violently, pain radiating from my arm and spreading everywhere else. When it was over, I lay naked on the cold floor, curled into a tight ball. I couldn’t breathe properly. My chest heaved as I struggled to suck in air, panic making everything worse. My whole body trembled uncontrollably. Slowly, I forced myself to look at my arm. Blood. So much blood. It pooled beneath me, slick and dark, coating my skin. My stomach twisted violently. One of those mysterious creatures—those things in the woods—had shot me.
