“If I give you my blood... you’ll all leave me alone?” “If you want us gone, we’ll vanish,” I nodded. “No strings and no manipulation attached.” “And if I don’t?” “Then we’ll die,” I said. “And maybe we deserve it.” Her mom was sobbing harder now, whispering Raven’s name over and over again like it would change the outcome. Raven stood frozen for a second longer, and then she opened her desk drawer and pulled out a tiny silver blade. My heart stopped. “Raven—” She walked over to me and pressed the blade into my hand.

I ask, even though I already know the answer. There’s a pause. “We assumed Richard Blackwood.” Of course. Of fucking course. I hang up and slam my phone onto the table. Hard enough that it cracks. Richard. Always Richard. The golden boy. The traitor. The man who took everything from us and still had the nerve to breathe. A hunter and a werewolf. Helena and Richard. A child born from that mess. Disgust crawls up my spine. I start pulling files. Old pack records. Birth certificates that were altered. Dates that don’t line up. Every trail bends back to Arachne. Every single one.

“Murderer! Where’s my sister?!” A girl pushed through the crowd, her face streaked with tears and dust. She grabbed another stone, rage twisting her features. Before she could throw it, someone moved faster. A tall figure stepped between us, his arm coming up just in time to block the blow. The world seemed to still. I looked up, and there he was. Alaric. The Raven King himself. His eyes… deep, stormy gray, locked on mine. His jaw tightened as he turned to glare at the crowd, his presence alone enough to make grown men bow their heads.

I wasn’t going to question her, though. She’d already done so much for me, and she was risking making an enemy out of Alec by just helping me.

Raven said, sounding a bit nerved up herself. “What whole thing?” I asked. “You know the Blood Moons?” “How could I forget?” I responded, my hands shaking so badly I had to sit back and put them on my lap. Here it comes. “Father hates them,” I said as the sun beat into one of my eyes, causing me to squint. “Yes, well, that’s all about to change,” Raven said, and I expected a glum look on her face. But instead, she glowed. Her cheeks turning pink. “I’m engaged to be married to Blake.”

Chapter 72 Raven moved quietly among the sick, her eyes shadowed with exhaustion. “Drink this,” she said softly, kneeling beside a young warrior lying in the infirmary. The boy’s breathing shallow; his pulse was faint. “I can’t,” he rasped. His eyes shimmered faintly violet, the early mark of Hollow infection. Raven steadied her voice. “You must. It’s blessed water mixed with moonroot. It’ll help you fight it.” He swallowed weakly, grimacing as the liquid burned down his throat.

“I know Nat wants to kill you himself, but since he’s a little tied up right now, I guess I’ll have to do it for him.” Shaking her head, Ru raised her hands. Blood dripped down her arm to her elbow, but that didn’t stop her. Ru shot out a steady stream of blue light with her left hand, waiting for Raven to counter, which she did with both hands, leaving her open to attack as Ru brought up her right hand, hitting her in her injured leg. Raven let out a shriek, which sounded like the caw of the bird she was named for, and crumpled to the ground, clutching at her leg. This made Ru’s power even more overwhelming now that the Reaper only had one hand to contend with.
