Luna’s crayon masterpiece had teeth. Literal ones. Lyra stood in the doorway of the pediatric playroom, a styrofoam cup of terrible coffee in one hand, and took in the scene: half the far wall was now occupied by a mural constructed from taped-up paper sheets. In thick, determined strokes of purple and blue, a lopsided wolf with a very large mouth was biting a stick-figure with a suspiciously crown-like shape on its head. Next to it, a smaller wolf—silver scribbles for eyes—held a heart.

The crayon rolled halfway across the stone floor before stopping next to Jenny’s toes. Jenny bent down to pick up the crayon. The paper wrapper of the crayon made a “rustling” sound against her fingertips. When her fingers touched the crayon, the cracks in the wax expanded slightly. A small piece of wax broke off from the crack and fell onto the back of her hand, emitting a pinkish glow in the gray light.

In my palm, they found a small piece of a candy wrapper soaked in blood. On the back of the wrapper, a few crooked words had been scratched out in blood. Elowen’s POV “Going for thirty grams!” the Auctioneer bellowed, thrusting a plank into the air. My teary gaze swept across the crowd, as many people raised their hands. The men thrust their eyes at me as though they wanted to devour me whole. “Those pretty tits for fifty grams!” Another man with a bloated belly and a thin scar dragging from the corner of his chin down to his cheek spoke while grinning his bare teeth at me. A gasp escaped my lips as I clasped my chained hands together, awaiting whatever decision was about to be made.

Blood flooded the front of her body and her white hair was now dyed red. The only thing they could do now was to wait until the people who were going to pick them up realize this mess and came before the situation really got out of hand. Without any lighting, the place looked very tense coupled with the female vampire who had lost control of herself and was filled with thirst. The seconds seemed to go by so slowly.
