“Already a traitor. He’ll go to school gladly when his turn comes.”
Elias blew a bubble in response, grinning widely, two tiny teeth peeking through his gummy smile.
I shook my head, torn between laughter and sympathy. “Gabriel, amore mio,” I whispered, kissing his hair, “you know I’ll be right here when you come back. And Papa too. And Elias will be waiting with a big smile.”
“No.” His arms tightened around my neck like a vice. “I want to be with you all the time.”
Gabriel turned his head just enough to glare at his father, his tiny brows scrunching into the fiercest frown his little face could manage. “Papa, it’s boring. And the teacher makes us sing. I don’t want to sing.”
