“So,” I murmured, “the split is real.”
He nodded. “She calls them the Crimson Moon. Says she’s restoring balance. Some believe it.”
I could almost hear Clara’s voice wrapping around those wordscalm, persuasive, righteous. Balance had always been her favorite lie.
Below us, the courtyard bustled with uneasy motion. Men sharpened blades without order. Messengers waited, afraid to ride into the smoke. Even the wolves kept close to the walls.
“She’s forcing you to choose,” James said. “Either yield to the council or draw first blood.”
