Daddies Taste Better
The bar itself was long and scarred, manned by a guy in his fifties with a graying beard and a faded tattoo of an anchor on his forearm.
A handful of people dotted the stools with two older guys arguing over a football game replay on the TV, a woman in a leather jacket nursing a whiskey alone, and a couple in the corner booth laughing too loud at something private.
I walked straight to the bar.
The bartender looked up when I slid onto a stool near the end and lifted his chin.
“Whiskey. Whatever’s cheap but not complete shit.”
He nodded and grabbed a bottle of Evan Williams from the well, poured a generous double into a rocks glass, and slid it across the scarred wood. “Six bucks.”
