The screen flickered once, then went black. For a few seconds, no one moved. The soft whir of the projector filled the room, followed by the low murmur of credits rolling in white text against darkness. Lucinda exhaled beside her, the sound thin and disbelieving. “This is it, huh.”

Aerona felt her eye balls heavy. It more seemed as though they had some muscle failure. She felt sluggish to open them, as she rather preferred to have them closed. But she had to open them, as she tried in lifting her eyes balls out of her closed eye lids. Having to adjust to the ambiance of the room caused her muscles some pain, and so her lids flickered as she robbed her eyes continuously, probably this was going to help her lens settle more probably on the ambiance.

Then I changed my expression to anger as I watched the corner next to the light bulb somewhat shake. If anyone saw me they would think that I was deep in thought. A few pieces of stone fell down from the floor. I crawled to my bed and lay down facing the light bulb in the room that flickered. This was also the only light in the room. Under my breath, I counted the seconds as the light bulb. "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven…" Flicker "One, two, three, four, five…" Flicker "One, two..”

The computer stirred, its fans humming to life, and the monitors flickered with renewed vitality. As the computer came to life before our eyes, the monitors flickering with a pale glow, I couldn't help but glance at Lucian, eager to witness his reaction. It dawned on me that this might be his first encounter with such advanced technology. His eyes widened, a mix of awe and curiosity dancing within them. He leaned in closer, his gaze fixated on the illuminated screens. The faint glow cast intricate patterns of light and shadow across his features, accentuating the intensity of his focus.

A sudden movement. A flash of pain. Blackness. Nothing.

The screen flickers, shapes shifting in shades of gray that mean nothing to me. Then I hear it—a faint blip. My eyes snap open. “What was that?” I ask, my voice trembling. Dr. Harris frowns slightly, moving the probe. “Could be something. Let me check again.” Jayden leans forward, his body tense. “Something? What does that mean? Was that the heartbeat?” “Hold on,” Dr. Harris says, her tone careful. “It could also be interference from your own pulse. Let me adjust one more time.”

* Feral flicked his ears forward and backward, conveniently like he had always done, but there was one small difference- his ears were out and pointed! What exactly was going on?!

Then, everything shifted, and the world began to crinkle up at the edges and fade to black. It stayed that way long enough to make me uncomfortable such that I almost backed out of it. But then, just when I was near to abandoning ship, static charged my line of vision like when an old television set is fighting to get a signal, and I used all of my strength to focus on that flickering, to bring it into view.

But the light Flickered. And went out.
