Book Arc Novels & Stories

After dinner, the dark one helped drag the given textbooks and manuals from the library to my room and left on his own business. Until dinner, I sat over my books, trying not to think about the upcoming test. I chose my specialty for a reason, because archiving involves access to the most extensive library in the kingdom. I had a glimmer of hope that Marner the First and his men had missed something, and that proof of his treachery lay somewhere on the dusty shelves.

Charlie The first open archway off the hall opened up into what looked like a library of mismatching bookshelves holding paperbacks in varying stages of disrepair. Some were missing covers and others were torn or stained or both. Area rugs of all different materials and color were scattered across the floor, as were a variety of bean bags. There were four kids reading and none of them looked up at me when I poked my head in. I kept walking.

Jared's study has a nine vast bookshelf, astonishing, there are various types of books, and just like the library, there are classified labels. Scarlet walked forward and backward with one hand on her jawline. In any case, it's still not sleep time. She smiled like a little cat and moved one hand to and fro on the bookshelf. Suddenly, a dim brown bookcase on the shelf grabbed her eye. Scarlet brought down the book, her eyes brimming with curiosity. A book without a title. Also no profile, nothing. It looks like a naval force brown shell. Scarlet couldn't move her eyes from the book, the book seemed to have sorcery power, inciting her to get it.

I placed my hand on the cold knob, and it creaked open under my push, revealing a library. Dust floated in the amber light coming from a chandelier, the scent of old paper surrounded me like an embrace. Shelves towered on all sides, cracked and faded with a variety of books. My fingers drifted along the titles crested in the rectangular back of the books, then something caught my eye—a red hardback, its cover smooth and untouched. The title was etched in gold: LEGACY OF THE CROSS.

Alaric finally turned and went back into his room to fetch a key, which he then handed to me. “Don’t stay in there too long,” he said again. I gave a small smile, then hurried back to the archive room. As soon as I opened the door, I went straight for the ancient book. Then I looked for other related books, perhaps there was a book on magic or something here... I tried to find it. There were many ancient books, but some of them were worn and illegible. This archive room felt like an old library. Without realising it, I dropped a book, scattering its contents.

I go the opposite way, painstakingly reading each and every title. “Callie!” Alice exclaims excitedly. “I think I found something.” I hurry over, seeing her pull a smaller black book off the shelf. There’s no title on this book, only a gold Baphomet overlaid on the leather. “The Book of the Beast,” I whisper, eyes lighting up. “I think you did find something.” She cracks the spine and I lean over, heart racing. And then the library doors open and close with a boom, echoing throughout the entire room. Alice and I both jump, and she quickly shoves the book into her cloak.

Magic tightening like a net. He began to speak, chanting in an old tongue. But before the incantation could finish, the book burned. Flame shot up from the name — not wild, but deliberate. Purposeful. It didn’t destroy the page. It sealed it. The gold letters glowed red-hot before cooling into black glass. The Archivist stepped back, eyes wide. “The book has accepted her.” The woman Councilor snarled. “Then we’ll erase the page.” I stepped forward.

I remembered the book and how much I enjoyed it. Taking the book out of the drawer, I noticed another book in the drawer. When I pulled it out, there appeared to be a smaller book inside. Bringing out the book inside, I rose from the seat. It was the archive. What was this doing in Aria's room? Where did she find it?

Old records, notes written in different inks, pages marked with symbols and small pieces of parchment tucked between the books. My eyes moved slowly over the piles of things. I was too tired to keep doing this, to keep going through the same old books, to try and find a way to stop Angelica. I let out a tired sigh. “Arthur…” He stepped closer, cutting me off like he knew what I was about to say. “I can’t even begin to imagine what it feels like,” he said slowly, “to find out that everything you thought you knew about yourself might not be true.” Arthur reached out and moved one of the books closer to the edge of the table. “So I started looking,” he continued.

I muttered and shuffled toward the library in search of the tan leather-bound book. Atticus’s library was enormous and the shelves of books also housed different magical artifacts on display. I was warned to not mess with them until I understood their properties. Searching everywhere I was growing frustrated. Heading down the last book case I growled. Not having any luck locating the book I gritted my teeth, closed my eyes, and raised my arms “Room of my family's bloodline please allow me to enter by showing me the book for your entrance!” Opening my eyes and tilting my head I heard movement down the row of shelving. Going toward the sound I see a tan book sticking out on the bottom shelf.
