“No!” The glass broke.

I twisted it. Nothing. I frowned and tried again. The handle moved freely in my hand. The door didn't. My stomach dropped. I yanked it harder, bracing my foot against the frame, pulling with my full weight. The old wooden door groaned and shuddered but refused to give. The frame had warped completely around it, swollen shut like something that hadn't been opened in years. The panic arrived in a single cold wave. It wasn't locked. It was broken. Jammed so completely that no amount of force was going to change that.

I deadpanned. A mischievous smile tugged at the corner of my lips as I pulled the door shut, calling out through the crack, "If you can't afford a hotel room, feel free to keep using this one!" Serves them right. "Hey, Andriette! Where were you?" Adhaya yelled from down the hall, jogging over to catch up with me. "You said you were going to get your books. Where are they?" she asked, glancing at my empty hands.

By the time I stepped outside the building, King and Giselle were already waiting near the front steps. "You look like you've been through a war," King said the moment he saw me. "I feel like it." I sighed. "Come on. I'll buy you coffee." He chuckled. "I'm broke." King raised an eyebrow. "Since when?" I hesitated for the briefest moment. Since this morning, when Ryan had thrown me out of his car before school and I'd been too embarrassed to admit I barely had enough money left to get through the week. Instead, I shrugged. "I... lost my money." The lie came easier than I wanted it to.

“Weird. It’s not turning on.” Nathan points. “The light’s on, which means it’s not dead. You broke it.” “What?” I squint at it, turning it over. The screen’s cracked, spider-webbed from corner to corner. “Oh… yeah. Right. Dropped my wrench while fixing the bike. Landed right on it.” “Of course you did.” Mason groans, rubbing his hand over his face. “Can we skip the part where we marvel at your destroyed electronics and get back to the fact you vanished?”

I squeezed my eyes shut and let a tear fall. "He's not going to die, I'm not going to let that happen." I repeated. "He's not going to die, I'm not going to let that happen." I breathed out. More bullets were being shot, and I immediately wiped my tears away in determination to get out. I took another deep breath and looked around analyzing the room. I squinted my eyes and noticed to door was slightly open. "How the fuck is it open Shawn slammed it shut?" I asked myself. I then remembered the door bouncing back open because of a piece of foam slightly sitting in between the doorframe preventing it from closing.

then the barman ended everything by calling security on him. "hey... I..." "don't sweat it. keep the change." I interrupted him, dropping his money on the counter and left. ***** "Why!... I hate you." That was all I could yell throwing anything my hand could reach and breaking whatever was breakable close to me. I have never in my life felt such public humiliation, never felt rejection, never felt so broken before. I had no one to turn to or confide in. For weeks I drowned myself in alcohol, drugs and anything I wouldn't originally buy with my money. That was where I found consolence. I wouldn't pick any incoming calls, nor let anyone in on my life.

I'm glad it's still intact or else Rion would never forgive me. I hand the journal over to him and he runs his hand over the leather cover, opening the book and flipping through it quickly as if to ensure that it was truly still in top shape. He nodded and turned away. I opened my mouth to speak to him but I didn't have the words. I had no idea what to say. How do you console a man that's been completely broken? One who no longer has a reason to live? That's a question I might never have the answer to. They did say time heals all wounds but I'm pretty sure this one will leave a very deep scar.
