Book Club Ideas For Adults Novels & Stories

"But we should talk more about books sometime. Maybe you could come over to my house and we could swap some recommendations." "That sounds fun," I say, a smile spreading across my face. "I'd like that. Maybe we could even make a book club, just the two of us." "Ooh, I love that idea!" she says, her eyes shining. "We could call it the Book Buddies Club! It'll be great." Just then, the bell rings, and we both jump up from our seats. "I'll see you at gym class!" she says, waving goodbye. "I'll be back after that so we can talk some more."

He shifts back; putting a seat between us and truly looking horrified. Bibah simply shakes her head at our childish shenanigans and takes a sip of her iced latte, metal straw clinking in the Hydro Flask. “The Awoo Book Club’s pick for this week is H.P Lovecraft.” She pats the voluminous book atop the pile and I notice it’s the library copy of H.P Lovecraft’s Omnibus 3. “I’m so excited to roast his ass.”

Then came the adults, some seeking knowledge for personal growth, others for professional development, their steps echoing the rhythm of the city's shared heartbeat. The day unfolded in a flurry of activity. Books were borrowed and returned, ideas were exchanged, and new concepts were introduced. In the children's corner, the storyteller weaved tales of heroic deeds and mystical creatures, her voice painting vibrant images in the listeners' minds. At the study tables, the teenagers grappled with complex equations and theories, their determined efforts punctuated by moments of frustration and triumph.

Goldstein said. “That’s a good idea,” Rayvin agreed. “You know, Rayvin. You should come to the book club in town,” the older woman said. Rayvin tensed up, and she felt Mikael squeeze her hand. “I don’t think I’m a book club person,” Rayvin said. The mayor and his wife chuckled. “Neither am I,” she confessed. “They have been reading the same book for two years,” her husband said with a grin. “Yes, well, Gossip and sherry club just doesn’t have the same ring to it,” Mrs. Goldstein said, making them all chuckle.

The invitation arrives via email. It's from Lisette. The subject line says: "Book Club - You Should Come." And the message is typical Lisette. Direct. No preamble. Just: "I started a book club. First month we're reading your book. You should come read to us." I call her immediately. "You started a book club and didn't tell me?" I ask. "I'm telling you now. It's six women. We meet once a month. This month we're reading your book because it's important and it's brilliant and I want to talk about it with people who will actually understand why it matters."

I said with a smile. Her eyes lit up with recognition. "Oh! You're the Gonzalezes! In the Miller beach house! We're so glad someone is finally living there year-round." She leaned in conspiratorially. "We have a weekly book club. Tuesdays at ten. We're starting a new mystery next week. Nothing too taxing. We'd love to have you." A book club. The invitation was so ordinary, so wonderfully mundane. For a moment, the old Gwen surfaced—the one who scheduled meetings with senators and orchestrated multi-million-dollar legal strategies. But she was quickly quieted by the woman I was now.

“You’re one of those conspiracy people.” “I am,” she said proudly. “Thank you for noticing.” I poured tea into mugs and added sugar, too much, as usual. Bailey watched, horrified. “Sweet tea,” she said, sounding like she’d discovered a crime. “You’re a sweet tea person.” “Yes,” I said, defensive on principle. Bailey leaned closer, eyes gleaming. “Okay. So here’s what we do. We start a book club.” I blinked. “What?” “A book club,” she repeated, like it was obvious. “For romance. Specifically romantic fantasy. Specifically.” she lowered her voice again, conspiratorial “ the ones with wolves.”

“We could meet at a coffee shop or the library when you’re less busy. And we could even have some time to talk about our favourite books.” The idea was thrilling, and I couldn’t help but imagine how it would be. We would meet at the coffee shop, and we would talk for hours about our favourite April Dove’s book. Maybe we could even do it regularly, and it would be like our own little book club. It sounded so much fun. “Sure!” Liam replied. His entire expression was lit up, and I wondered if he was having the same thoughts as me. “Could I um… get your number? So can I text you when and where?” He asked, and his cheeks turned pink.

She was willing to trust them and the decisions they made for her. "Forget it, I'm not hungry" "We can wait until it gets dark outside" "Or we could order in" "Okay. So what should we do next? Aside from watching movies that put you to sleep?" Baby steps. "Do you have a scrabble game? Or cards?" "I have neither. Book club it is" "What?" "Let's start with Bound to fall in Love" "Are you serious?"

"Let's go a little later. I have some things to do." She dried up her hands on a towel. "In that case I'll go down to the lake and then I'll pick you up in say an hour? Is that enough time?" "Make it two. I have book club. Possibly three hours. One of the girls is bringing little chocolate glazed doughnuts. You should come!" Her book club has some of the most idle gossipers in Sunrise Cove. I wouldn't risk it. I'm past passing off for bloated. "No thank you. I'll go down to the river."
