“You almost gave me a heart attack.” Brian stepped forward. “Come on brother.” My legs moved right back to the door. And before I knew it, we threw our hands around each other. Brian and I never, ever hugged each other. We always told ourselves that it was a girl's thing to do. But today? After everything that I had been through. After he had spent days without seeing me. We hugged. Not the quick kind. The real kind. The irresistible kind. Tight. Strong. Honest. The kind that said, I’ve got you, without using words.

The confident determination shining in his eyes, mirroring my dreams of acceptance and belonging, gave me hope for a brighter future. Taking a deep breath, I smiled even more as I hugged him. The scent of his cologne filled my senses, and I couldn't help but revel in the warmth of his embrace. The moment I hugged him, I felt his heart beating so fast, as if it were trying to escape from his chest. It took him a couple of seconds before he hugged me back, his arms wrapping around me with a tenderness that made my heart flutter.

“Yes I do. I always feel better with your hugs.” They smiled, throwing their arms around him again for extra healing.

He asks and I huff out a little laugh. The man doesn't recognize a hug? "Hugs release good endorphins. They make you feel good. Lessen anxiety." I explain. He grunts a little, but wraps his arms around me and I hold him tighter. We stand like that for a few minutes until he lets me go. "Thanks." He says, his cheeks a precious pink. "That actually helped." He says and I beam at him. "Good. Now show me the goods." I say.

Oh fuck my life, I didn't even know he was once married. I was speechless and he was quiet. He looks as though he has a lot on his mind, I also do but I wonder what he's going through. "We need four hugs a day for survival," He turns to look at me amused at my sudden statement but I just continue. "Eight hugs a day for maintenance and twelve hugs a day for growth. Sure you still don't want a hug?" Stretching my hands far apart, I wait as his eyes searches mine. It's written all over his face he's not used affection like this so I scoot closer to him, my arms still wide apart.

" Cynthia’s voice was shaky, emotional. She stretched her arms toward me, silently asking for a hug. I didn’t hesitate. I rushed into her embrace, pulling her close as she snuggled into my chest. I could feel her warmth, her love, her heartbeat against mine. "Awww! I’m joining this hug!" Charity declared and jumped in, squeezing between us. "I feel like crying! I need to be loved too, Joor! What kind of intimidation is this?" Chinwe whined as she threw herself into the hug as well. The four of us stood there, locked in an unbreakable embrace, until—

her face pales when she looks at the headstone behind his shoulder. Mahone steps closer to her, "Samlin." She looks at him, "What?" "Can I give you a hug?" She strangely tilts her head to him, frowning a little at his sudden question. "Why?" "Well_" he rubs the back of his head awkwardly, twitching his lips. "They say__ it can comfort someone in a loss, when you hug them passionately." She continues to frown, then suddenly smiles. "Fine. Give me a hug."

They rush over to us with huge smiles on their faces. My closest friend, Kennidy, throws her arms around me as she squeezes me so tight that I can hardly breathe. "Babygirl, I missed you! Don't ever leave me again, okay?" I laugh slightly before nodding my head. Then, just as she was beginning to pull away, another friend of mine, Antonio, engulfed me in a hug. He had to be the best hugger ever. His height only made it easier to fall absolutely in love with his hugs. "I'm sorry about your dad," he whispered into my hair before pulling away.
