AUTHOR'S POV BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. The red warning banners flooded the massive monitors covering the southern wall of the packhouse server room. Chandler Gaunt gripped the edge of the metal console, his knuckles turning entirely white. Reclaiming his ex-wife and her billions at the upcoming Blood Moon Summit remained his only path out of complete bankruptcy, but right now, his own pack was crumbling around him. Dex’s fingers flew across the mechanical keyboard, sounding like a violent hail storm on a tin roof.

Maggie was holding me tight, her expression terrifyingly dark. Her arm had caught some of the spray when she grabbed me. The sleeve of her blazer was already burned through in several places, the fabric edged in black. "You're hurt!" I took her hand, my chest aching, but she shook her head. Her eyes never left Corbin. Finding the hallway clear, I pulled her out of the office and led her up to a secluded corner of the rooftop. The moment we arrived, she violently yanked her hand out of my grip. Empty. But on the floor just beyond the doorway was another letter. No footsteps. No sound of retreating. Just the wind and the letter, like it had been dropped from the sky. Hands shaking, she picked it up. This one had no name. Inside was just one line: > You waited too long. Elara’s breath caught. She looked outside.
