The Guardians was a group of elite guards, who specialized in protecting important figures. The safety and security of high-ranking officers, such as Isaac himself, were managed by the said group. They might not be the strongest warriors, nor the swords that cut down enemies, but they were the best protectors, the sturdiest shield that safeguarded the people. Taking down Zion Mercenaries' affiliates or soldiers would surely cause retaliation.

In the living room, a blanket lay folded neatly on the arm of the couch. He moved to Stella’s bedroom. The bed was neatly made, and a few books were stacked by the headboard. He stepped closer, fingers brushing over the dusty book covers. He recognized the titles, ancient texts on guardianship, and several fantasy novels, they were her favorite genre. He closed his eyes, feeling his stomach twist. The last time they’d spoken six months ago, he’d left too quickly, assured she would be safe in his house, convinced that there was no immediate danger, but who knew his stupid wife and her daughter would chase her from the house? Now, that confidence felt like a mockery.

"I don't understand you anymore. I took days out of my life, traveling through those dangerous hills and valleys just to see if you were alive, and you treat me like a criminal." She turned to leave, but then she paused and looked back at me one last time. "You might be the most loyal guard in the Silver Moon, Kaelen," she said, her voice echoing in the quiet hallway. "But that doesn't change the fact that you still have the blood of the Blackwood in your veins. Try to be as defensive as you want. Try to play the perfect guard. But you will always be one of us. Get that at the back of your mind."
