Night-Blooming

Night-Blooming

Breathless, the sisters crossed the door of Lyra’s house and stopped there, with their bodies pressed against the wall for a moment. “Look, Lyra you have to stay here.” Let grandmother take care of you. “I have to go back out there.” Demons were making havoc in the streets. For now, the only advantage they had over those monsters was that the whole city was so full of spiritual energy that it’d take them a while to identify where people were, if these hid well enough. “This…” Lyra was petrified in the spot where she stood, and her eyes were full of terror.

Dark of Night

Dark of Night

Dark of Night Copyright 2019 Emily Goodwin Chapter One “What do you see when you look at this one?” The doctor holds up a card, showcasing an ink splotch that’s twisted and creepy, with eyes that follow you no matter where you go. I look at it, heart hammering away inside my chest. The mess of ink on the white paper reminds me of the monster that lurks in Nana and Papa’s basement, the one that tried to get Abby and Scott to go downstairs with it.

I Spent a Night in a Serial Killer's House

I Spent a Night in a Serial Killer's House

It felt as though someone had breathed cold air directly onto my skin. I didn't believe in ghosts, not for a second. Then realization hit me. There were only two living people in this building. Me, and the killer. In that instant, my entire body locked up. Every muscle froze. I couldn't move. A low, sinister voice whispered right beside my ear. "I found you... heh heh..." "AHHH!" The terror of death closing in shattered what little composure I left. I screamed and collapsed onto the floor. I scrambled backward in panic and kept retreating until my back slammed against the wall.

Désiré Me 2

Désiré Me 2

As the enemy. And the other. The other woman. Béatrice. I put a name to the ghost now. Her eyes are not filled with the same pure pain. They shine with an animal, primal terror. And beneath that terror, I think I see something else. A complex, indefinable glimmer. Shame, yes. But perhaps also… a tiny spark of dark triumph? The ultimate affirmation of her hold over that stolen night? I refuse to name it. I violently reject it. The silence that follows is more deafening than a cannon blast. It crushes the room.

Alpha Faye

Alpha Faye

I barely make it to my bathroom before I throw up, the feeling of distress too overwhelming to manage. Cal is immediately at my side. He check my room and around it multiple times before he deems it safe. I only fall asleep when he agrees to keep his door open. *** “You slept late last night. Night terrors are common,” Cal explains at breakfast. I had just spent the past hour singing to the Goddess, which only caused my voice to crack shoulders to slump. I'm beyond exhausted, and not just my lack of sleep. I've been too afraid to go down and visit T, to question him about what I keep seeing. My Guards assure me he's still there, which means at least that he's not escaping.

Nightmare Land

Nightmare Land

A lullaby hums in a voice not your own Sung from the mouths of the buried and dead A faceless thing grins in the wide doorway Stretching its arms, your escort inside Your name is etched on a tomb with no grave A jagged whisperer, an icy brace Your heart beats loud, but not for long Run, run, but your feet won't move The darkness wraps its chains around you I said grin forms in the blackest shade Time runs out, and so will your veins The bells don't toll; the clocks don't chime Only the sound of the end of time Your Shadow melts your hands turn cold The nightmare sings as it takes hold I'm sorry to say, but this is the end Your breath is stolen; no need to pretend A door creaks open; the void

A Night at Wildwood

A Night at Wildwood

Slowly, shakily, the boys turned to look. And that’s when they saw him. Willy. Not just Willy — something worse. He looked bigger now, his skin stretched too tight, his eyes black holes in his face. He was coming for them. And he wasn’t smiling anymore. Willy let out a roar that shattered the stillness of the night. The dead things behind Nadia stirred, stepping forward. Ben didn’t hesitate. He swung the bat at the first shadow that lunged at them — the wood cracking against something solid — but the figure barely flinched.

The Ex-Luna's Revenge

The Ex-Luna's Revenge

No, this couldn't be what I think it is. “Who.. are you?” I asked. “Randall of the Night Terrors, Your Highness,” a smirk played on his lips. “Impressive enough?” My shoulders sagged in horror. The Night Terrors were an infamous terrorist pack consisting of thieves, robbers, and all forms of criminals one could imagine. They were made of Lycans who were three times more powerful and deadlier than regular wolves. And before was the legendary king of thieves, Alpha Randall Forte.

Broken Nightmare

It took a lot for me not to slap his hand away. Sensing my hesitation, he continued. “Nathan Night is not who you think he is. He's a liar and murderer. He slaughtered innocent children. Do you really want to get protection from someone like that? My heart started to beat faster. “What are you talking about?” “Come with me and all your questions will be answered.

This is a really unique and fun story. It has more action than steam and the confusion that the narrator feels is duplicated in the reader, but with curiosity. Good length, good vocabulary and writing. Totally enjoyable!

Call of Night

Call of Night

“Callie and her friend got there first.” “The vampire?” Brooke nods again. “He said he’s never had pizza.” A few people laugh and Brooke gets embarrassed. “How sad for him. I do love a good pizza. Now, Brooke, I know it was a scary night, but can you tell us what happened in the woods?” “There were people. With black eyes. They tried to get into the door and Callie and her friend fought them off. They were like superheroes.” “Did the vampire scare you? It’s all right if he did. Vampires scare me.”
