Collier’s POV I heard Amanda scream from upstairs for someone to call 911. I heard Ally’s name and my blood ran cold. Amanda was screaming orders at someone to bring her a shirt when I made it to the top of the stairs. Jack stood closest to her untying her hands. What the hell was going on? Without thinking I took my shirt on and pulled it on over her head. She was motionless. Covered in blood. How had we not heard this? Who did this? Through winding paths and across the marsh flats they trailed them, until the dark shapes of tents and timber walls emerged from the night—the Dreadmaw camp. The stench hit first. Smoke, blood, and rot woven together, undercut by the musk of too many wolves crowded in one place. Inside the camp, firepits glowed, throwing red light on crude wooden palisades. Some of the Dreadmaws were sprawled in drunken feasts, tearing flesh from a deer’s carcass with bare hands. Others sparred with steel and claw, their snarls echoing into the trees. From their perch atop the wall’s edge, Kael and Fenrak crouched low, unseen.

Chapter 21 It was dark already, I had barely even noticed. We were looking for where to camp for the night. Natalia's POV By the time evening settled over the border camp, the sky had turned into beautiful shades of orange and purple. The cool breeze carried the scent of the forest through the camp as warriors finished changing shifts and healers packed away the herbs they no longer needed. The atmosphere was far calmer than it had been earlier in the day. I stood beside Dominic near the entrance of the camp while waiting for the vehicles from the estate because we were returning back to the estate. Camping gear is already set up near the center. We start putting up our tents. Nora, me, and another girl get assigned to one cabin close to an empty one.
