"He's fucking insane." One of the boys raised his voice and took a few steps back. This guy was the bravest one. The other two paled and started running immediately. Aiden had told them that his brother was a psycho. He hadn't mentioned cannibalism! This guy eats people!!!

Freya I looked down at the book in my hands. My face felt very hot. “I did not know what it was,” I said quickly, trying to hide how embarrassed I was. “I must have picked it up by mistake.” Adrian looked over at me. To my surprise, the corner of his mouth curved into a small smile. “Freya, it is okay. Remember what you learned: you do not have to explain yourself.” I played with the edge of the book’s shiny cover. My cheeks got even hotter when I saw the shirtless man on the front. “But I am telling the truth. I do not normally read… this kind of thing.”

The eerie streak in her voice sent ripples of fear up Mercedes’ spine. “Oh, my poor, pathetic sister. You still have your head in the clouds.” She leaned in closer. “When are you going to start thinking about yourself?” She pushed her finger into Mercedes’ chest. “No one is going to get you where you want to be in life. You cannot rely on anybody but yourself.”

After a few pages, she looked up and took a deep breath. “I’m keeping this,” She placed the book on the table. “I’m done thinking. Now, let’s do it fast.”

I suddenly stopped reading the names of the books when my right knee hit the wooden shelf. I bent down and rubbed it, trying to soothe the pain. It's like a thunderbolt fell on my knee. It's a little ache but I react to it a lot for a moment. It's terrible, like a thunderbolt! Once again, I glance up at the shelf. It's filled with books which are related to psychology, human development and universe theories etc. I huff.
