I stepped in slowly, carrying one lamp in my hand, and closed the door behind me. Rows of shelves disappeared into the darkness, filled with books that had not been touched for years. Some were leather-bound, some were locked inside wooden boxes, and others had seals bearing the names of kings who had been dead for hundreds of years. I moved deeper into the room until I reached a shelf marked with the royal seal, then began searching through the private journals of previous rulers. I was not looking for official history anymore because I already knew that official history could be changed. I wanted the words that kings had written when they believed nobody would ever read them. Those words,

She would play with me and tell me stories of kings and queens. In her stories, the kings were not like the ones which I have seen with my own eyes. In her stories, the kings were generous and merciful, not like King Leonor. Sometimes I wonder, do kings like those even exist in this cruel world. She shut the book, having taken her fill of a history of Pyre and its kings, and turned her attentions to the other. What I hadn't expected was for him to try to bury me with work all of a sudden to get me off his tail. "This contains the history of our kind from the first king to the third. We went through a period when we had no monarch," the Royal Historian said, picking up a book. "This book covers the history of wolves in the days when we didn't have a stable rulership." The book she produced next was the biggest I ever saw in my life. "Am I really to read all these?" I asked, rubbing my neck. I knew there would be work to be done but these books would take months to read.

The silence that followed was absolute. Slowly, Karlo turned around. The expression on his face wasn't anger, it was a completely blank, hollow, void of pure, unadulterated carnage. The ruthless king who had built an empire on blood had finally revealed his single, fatal weakness to the world. He had tried to hide his little bird, but the hunters had smelled the gold on her gown.

I trailed off as footsteps and voices drew nearer, but thankfully, they didn’t enter the alley. “I’m telling you, Drend, something’s wrong in the palace. Why else would the king refuse to hear the public’s representative petitions? Canceling the first court hearing and now refusing to continue after the first guy? It has never happened.” They looked like humans, but I knew they had to be werewolves. But wait, the king is back? The Drend guy replied, “Nothing’s wrong. The king is just as immature and inconsiderate as ever. That’s what happens when a young boy ascends the throne. He’s back from his journey and doesn’t want to resume his duties.”

"Look, Henry, get yourself a real woman, but do it quickly before I put your brother as a temporary king." Hell no. "You wouldn't." My father chuckles, a wry amusement in his expression. "Believe me, Henry, I would." I scrutinized him closely, the stern lines etched on his face conveying a seriousness that demanded my attention. The room, bathed in the soft glow of antique lamps and adorned with regal tapestries, seemed to amplify the weight of our conversation. "Okay, I'll make a plan." "Good." My father's smile, a rare display of approval, added a touch of warmth to the room. "I know you'll make a great king, Henry, but behind every great king is an even greater queen."

As if attempting to recall the sensation of being complete. Beyond the boardroom, the workplace thrummed with normal activity. Within, two kings battled their history, their emotions, and above all, the irresistible fo rce drawing them closer.

I asked and looked at Claude. He glanced at me and nodded. "Indeed. They need to be kept here so that no one would dare to ruin the pages of the books. There are also historians' textbooks that all about war strategies and political knowledge that they shared and wrote in a book." He shrugged.
