He found Luna in the library after he was done with work. “What are you reading?” He stared at the book cover before sitting next to her. She promptly closed it and showed it to him. It was titled Tales and Myths about the Moon Goddess. “You should know more than that book, right?” “Of course.” She smiled and caressed the book’s spine. It was an interesting read. “I remembered something you said. I thought you might have stated it incorrectly.” “Hmm? What is it?”

She narrowed her eyes into slits, a defiant look now crossed her face as if she was fighting internally with her emotions. “You don’t even know your true history. Do you think it’s a coincidence the males in your family develop an illness, one that coincidentally started after your ancestor stole the power from Marcellus? It is a way to curse you for your transgressions against nature, for taking something that did not belong to you. Although, for whatever reason it does not kill you. So, in order to be your Luna, I needed to magnify that illness to make sure your predecessor was out of the picture.”

The moonlight was coming in through the window and making the room lighter. For some reason in that moment her mind went to Quinn. He’d always called her “his moon” because of her eyes. He’d once told her he’d never met another person with grey/silver eyes like hers. He told her they reminded him of the moon the way they shone. He also said that that’s what she was to him.. the Moon… because she was his light in the dark. Her mind came back to the present. Whatever was blocking the light from outside was coming into focus. She followed it up .. higher and higher until she reached the top of the object.

“I… don’t know. She was always so private about her stuff. Even when I asked to borrow her notes, she would rather send them than give me access to her screen.” Lily sighed. “Nothing at all? Maybe a hint? A nickname, a favorite number? A pet's name?” “She didn’t have pets. But…” Cassidy bit her lip. “She was weirdly obsessed with that old book series… you know, the one about the warrior wolves? Moonshade Pack Chronicles, I think?” Lily perked up. “Yeah! She used to talk about it all the time.” “Sorry I can’t help more.” “No—it’s okay,” Lily said, her smile fading. “Thanks for trying.”

The crickets were like a lullaby, but sleep wasn’t coming. My mind was on Vincent’s secret. He didn’t have his phone for me to go through it. My laptop was at home, so I couldn’t do anything with the flash drive that was still in my bra. My brain was in a battle with itself. The Moon Goddess told me to always have faith in my mate. She didn’t say not to have faith in my brother, just trust my mate above all. Surely he wouldn’t have done something behind my back?

Some days are better, and some days, we don't even have the motivation to write or look at our manuscript. There are still some names without an ending, but we will hear them as the series progresses. Improvising, I grabbed a few items that Piercy decorated his room with. Thankfully, Brittany given me a laptop with the binder. Her system confused me. Making my own spreadsheet, I laid out a solid month at a time. Starting with the bills, I wrote down the date they were due and how much. Then I moved to the next thing. One by one, I organized the entire month on just the basic of what this pack required. “What are you doing?” Piercy was standing behind me, looking at the spreadsheet. “Um…” I was confused. “… trying to learn how to be a luna? Isn’t that what I was supposed to do?”
