THE LIES THAT BIND
She said as she made her way to the sit-out close by.
The maidens brought out a bottle of champagne, and we both sipped our glasses. The conversation flowed easily, the memories we'd shared as lovers. Rosalia seemed carefree, but I knew better. I suspected she was hiding something.
"Tell me, Massimo," she said, her eyes locked on mine, "why did you start this business? What's the appeal of flowers?" I studied her face, searching for any hidden motives.
I leaned back in my chair, my eyes never leaving hers. "It's just a hobby," I lied, my tone smooth. Rosalia's gaze lingered on mine, and I could sense her skepticism. We both knew I wasn't telling the truth.
