The news broke on a Sunday morning at 7:43 a.m. Mia was on the couch with her first coffee, still in the soft gray half-wakefulness of a morning with nowhere to be, when Sarah walked out of her bedroom holding her phone with the expression of someone who has just stepped on something in the dark and is not yet sure what it was. "You need to see this," Sarah said. She handed the phone over. Mia read it.

She looked at me in disbelief "This.." She said in a trembling voice. Again a smile line formed on my face. I nodded my head and said in a low voice, “I would like to ask for your help in spreading this news throughout the media-” Nothing should be missed, all must know it, "And I hope this news spreads tomorrow morning, exactly at 07.30 in the morning" Because that was the time when Uncle Sam was in the dining room. And it was the perfect time to see his shocked face…

Meagan's POV (…a fight with little Missy) It was a gay morning. The brightness of the sun gave no clue of the weather last night. Chirping birds and crickets, were the usual sounds Meagan was accustomed to on days where her alarm clock failed to yank her out of bed early, since her mum had taken a compulsory break from anything aside just breathing.

A new day was beginning, a mortal day, full of mundane worries and finite time. “What do we do now?” she asked, her voice small. He kissed her forehead, his lips warm and real. “We live,” he said.

Atlanta woke up to the headline. By eight it was the kind of story that had people stopping mid-sentence in offices and coffee shops and gym parking lots to read their phones with the specific expression of people encountering something they hadn't seen coming.

The news came at six forty-three on a Friday morning. Not through Marsh. Not through Lucas or Sebastian or any of the channels I had been monitoring since the filing. It came through Clara, who had a habit of reading three different financial news services before seven in the morning and who texted me a link at six forty-three with no accompanying message, which was Clara’s way of saying: this requires no commentary from me, the thing itself is sufficient. I was already awake. I opened the link.

The morning began not with sunlight, but with headlines. Amara woke to the vibration of her phone buzzing insistently on the nightstand. She reached for it groggily, expecting another social notification, perhaps a reminder from her calendar. ALEX It was four in the morning. Grayson and I were sitting in my office, constantly refreshing the main news sites and checking the most trending business topics on the net. Several hours earlier, we had released Ravenford Corporation's statements, and we helped spread the revelations about Lapis Arena Industries and the accidents their products caused.
