The entire summer went by before our senior year started like any of the other summers I have experienced, probably because all it usually includes is me drowning myself in the depths of an amazingly written book, going to the gym and training for the swimming season for school. All while Madi is out there setting the latest summer trends, having fun with her girls – Chloe Valentine, organising bonfires on the beach for sunset and having boys gawk at her and girls wanting to be her. We are honestly two opposite sides of the same coin. She is warm and sunny, while I'm cold and gloomy – that's probably why I'm drawn to the water, like a moth to a red hot flame.

In my defense, I had been distracted and was running late. However, I guess that wasn’t a good enough excuse, especially since I refused to tell them what had distracted me. I liked boys, of course, I did! But what I didn’t like was the hot-headed Alphas thinking they could corner me and put their hands on me whenever they wanted to. Like that idiot, Summer’s from a western pack did. Thinking he was all badass and shit and was going to make me submit. HA! What a laugh!

Checks the time 'Sh*t it's already six thirty'. Summer had begun and all of the neighborhood kids took advantage of every bit of daylight that shined. As soon as the sun come up you could hear the ATV's rummble from inside the house. Blacking out her windows to get some sleep during the daylight hours had done its job but there was nothing she could do about the noise disturbing her rest. She remembered what it was like to be a child. Carefree. Happy. Endless summer days with friends. That isn't something she dared ruin for them. Besides her salted caramel java monster would pep her up in no time.

TRIGGER WARNING: SEXUAL ASSAULT IN THIS CHAPTER Juniper Summer was always my favorite season. Some people complained summer is too hot, or too humid, but I loved the feel of the sun shining down on me, loved being able to spend my entire day hanging out in and around the stream, and loved having an ice-cold lemonade at the hottest part of the day. While it was technically not summer yet — the solstice was still several weeks away — the temperature was hot enough for me to claim it was summer.

It was, like most human things, something in between. July arrived and with it the particular quality of a settled summer — not the tentative warmth of June, which still carried traces of spring's uncertainty, but the full committed heat of a city in summer that had stopped apologizing for itself. Aria liked this quality of July. She liked the commitment of it, the way it made no promises about cooling and instead simply was what it was.

Quietly, I stepped into the library to pick more books that were recommended to get more knowledge about things going on in the academy. I passed a sign that read, be quiet or be led out! Walking towards the last section of the room, I took a peek through the tall shelves. From the corner of my eyes, I glimpsed a pretty blonde, and I sniffed the air as I caught a whiff of Summer's mangoes scent. My eyes narrowed as Summer walked towards me. She wasn't alone. She was in the company of three other girls. What was she up to?

Memories flooded her head and she decided to sit on the stair for a bit. She closed her eyes and drifted of into nostalgia. It was a bright summer's day when Bobby had mustered up the courage to call her his girlfriend. It was the first week in high school and Summer was the emotional punching bag for many kids. As she sat alone at the table, waiting for Bobby to arrive from the cafeteria, a group of girls grabbed her tray and threw it onto her lap. Summer shrieked but she did not say anything. The girls were mean, cruel and nasty. They said so many ruthless things to her that the tears started to stream down her face.

Maybe I was destined to feel this only for him. "Well we have to leave you now, Joshua has to open up the salon and I have to meet with the real estate agency." Anthony said as he and Joshua got up. "Well see each other this weekend for camping, Summer you said you know a perfect spot." Huh, Summer had no clue, somehow I think she never even went camping. "Yes, my driver will pick us all up and drop us off." Summer said, her eyes shined as she looked at Anthony. It was either the shine of love or the shine of a hangover, either way it was nice to see.
