Books To Read In The Fall Novels & Stories

Watching television had not quite worked out for Mercy either time that she had tried it, so she decided to spend her day reading a book. Luna Isabella had recommended something called Little Women to her, which she said was a classic, and so far, Mercy was enjoying it. She’d curled up in the window seat in the bedroom she’d been sleeping in. Outside, fall leaves fluttered from the trees, spreading a blanket of color all over the velvety lawn. Mercy’s eyes kept wandering away from the words, even though she did like the book. Once her eyes strayed from the words, they quickly slipped to August.

My hands skimmed the books stacked in the book shelves, and time ticked by painfully slow as I took Alpha Nolan's younger brother's advice and stayed inside the room. It had been over two hours since I slept and woke up on the white and gold bed, so I decided to take a look at all the books that were in the book shelves. The writing on the spines were mostly fading away, gathering dust as they had no use for the people who lived here. All the books had one thing in common: they all had sprinkles and bits of thrillers in them.

I entered mine, went through the three books I had gotten from the store, and set them down on the bed. I folded my arms and read their names. The Claiming Rites, Finding the One, and Under the Red Moon. There was no order in which anyone should read these books, so I sat down and picked up The Claiming Rites. After an hour, I finished reading. The book made zero sense, and then I picked up Finding the One and spent another hour reading through it. While the first book was incomplete, the second made a little more sense. I picked up the third, which I had gone to Zion’s room with. I took my time reading, and another hour went by.

Half a month later, on a quiet afternoon, I had already settled in a small town by the seaside. I had sold my wedding ring for a substantial amount of money. I filled my days with good food and beautiful scenery. A dull ache would occasionally surface in my body. I had no idea how much time I had left. Hence, I treated each day as if it were my last. I laid back on a beach chair and listened to the steady rhythm of the waves. Over the past 27 years of life, I had never felt this free or at ease.
