Booktok Holiday Books Novels & Stories

Christmas was the reading of the book. This Christmas, Don's book was a novel—Norwegian, which was not a coincidence, a novel by the same writer whose essays were in the Norway reading programme. The novel was called The Dark Year, and it was about a man who spent a winter alone in a cabin in the far north of Norway, experiencing the full darkness for the first time. Don had been saving it since September, when he had finished the essays. He had placed it on the shelf above his desk, the designated holding place for the Christmas book, and had not opened it once.

That had to count for something. Present opening continued. Jason got expensive tech stuff. Melissa got designer accessories. Catherine got a spa package from Sophie. Everyone was happy. Except I kept thinking about the bookmark in my hands. About the hours Derek must have spent carving my name. About what that meant. After presents, Catherine announced she was making breakfast. Sophie helped. Jason disappeared with his new gadgets. Melissa went to shower. Leaving Derek and me alone in the living room, surrounded by wrapping paper and ribbons and the smell of pine.

It’s been snowing heavily for hours. The smell of Christmas is already all over the place. Christmas trees and lights are almost everywhere. It’s the last day of school today and everyone is already trooping out of the gate for the Christmas holiday. Ever should have been on her way home but her professor has asked for her in his office the reason behind that has left her worried and confused. “I’m sure I wrote my holiday essay well. Why would professor Kade want me in his office? Dear God please I hope I’m not in trouble” she muttered as she made her way through the empty walls of the school towards his office.

After our final paper for the semester, Gracie and her friend, Melody, drove me home in Melody's car, and once again, I allowed them to convince me to attend a final-year student's birthday party. By tomorrow, most students will leave for the holiday, and before the weekend, the Dorm will be empty. Unlike other semesters where a few students might decide to stay behind. It's the Christmas holiday. A time for family, friends, parties, and reunions. I doubt anyone would stay back at the Dorm. So tonight would be more like one last fun before the Christmas break. I caved and went for the party, pushing the thoughts of EMK and the fact that he might come for me any moment, far away from my mind.

The city skyline twinkled with leftover holiday lights, snow dusting the railing like powdered sugar, but the real view was Astrella, curled up beside me in nothing but my oversized flannel shirt, unbuttoned just enough to tease those perfect tits, legs bare and crossed, her laptop balanced on her thighs. She'd insisted on this 'morning read-aloud' after pounding out that filthy story last night, her eyes gleaming with that wicked writer’s spark. "Dax, baby," she'd purred, handing me the printed pages, still warm from the printer, edges crisp. "Now, read my latest. Out loud. Every dirty word. It's inspired by us... kinda." I smirked, flipping it open to the first page, 'Snowbound Enemies: A

Then he bent down and rummaged through his turtle shell backpack, pulling out a gaudily covered book. He stuffed it into Yosef's hands. "My sister will come to pick me up later, could you read me a novel first?" Yosef looked down at the novel handed to him. The gaudy cover featured a strange title—"Cold CEO's Ninety-Nine Days of Wife-Chasing: Sweetheart, Don't Run." He frowned; Is this novel suitable for kids? Looking at the author's name again, Godber. Just from the name, it felt like this person lacked talent.

He shifts back; putting a seat between us and truly looking horrified. Bibah simply shakes her head at our childish shenanigans and takes a sip of her iced latte, metal straw clinking in the Hydro Flask. “The Awoo Book Club’s pick for this week is H.P Lovecraft.” She pats the voluminous book atop the pile and I notice it’s the library copy of H.P Lovecraft’s Omnibus 3. “I’m so excited to roast his ass.”

Wonderful Christmas memories of his aunt flooded into his mind. All the good memories. All the happy times. The joy of Christmas. “Molly, it’s perfect,” he whispered. “I don’t know how you did this, but it's amazing.” “Christmas magic,” Molly replied. She shrugged, grinning back at Nicholas. “And a little help from Hannah’s recipe for Buche de Noel, too. She didn’t help me at all, by the way. She was supposed to come check on me while I was baking, but I think she got caught up with something at her apartment.”

I walked away from the dress shop, I stopped to look at my map and make sure I was heading in the right direction. I walked in the direction the map was suggesting. When I arrived, I saw a cute older lady inside with a dusting brush. The bookstore seems quaint and antique. I was looking for a vintage book that I heard Hunter used to love as kid. The book is very old, it was published in 1821 so perhaps his grandmother used to read it to him? I only heard him mention it to my mother. Father’s Day is soon, and I want to get him a gift. It is called “The Two Doves and The Owl.”

“Roll my windows down first, I can tell what you two were doing.” Author's Note: Sorry about the delay, Saturday I had to take my oldest to the ER. He had croup and that with his asthma was super rough. Then my youngest caught it :( Now both kiddos are feeling better, but I've gotten sick too.
