Books With Uncle Remus Novels & Stories

"Carmen, what took you so long? I heard a couple fighting about touching the wrong person. Was that you? Were you two having that much fun in there?" My face burned as I walked faster. "Let's just head back. If we stay out any later, Uncle Grant will start looking for us." When we opened the door, Uncle Grant's face was stormy. The smell of braised beef with red wine filled the air. He had cooked dinner and prepared my favorite dish. But the moment he saw what I was wearing, he frowned. "What are you dressed in?" I hurried to explain that I had gotten my clothes dirty and had to borrow something from a classmate in the dance room. He only half believed me, but he let it go.

Part 49. Afternoon, the sun was shining brightly. Joe glanced briefly at Clara, who seemed engrossed in reading a translated novel by William Shakespeare. "Clara," Uncle Joe called. "Yes," Clara carefully folded her book and closed it. Then, she walked over to Uncle Joe, who was sitting in his armchair. Clara stood beside Joe, looking at the laptop screen he showed her. "Which one do you prefer, this one or this one?" Joe asked, pointing to two options of a pink and a purple teddy bear.

For a second, I’m tempted, but then another wave of heat erupts in my chest, and I lose my nerve. “Tell me about the other books,” I say instead. “The other books?” I nod. And as I tuck my knees to my chest and wind my free arm around my knees, breathing through the stuffiness that’s getting more unbearable by the minute, I listen to the most garbled plot summaries I’ve ever heard in my entire life. “Okay. See, there’s this one with a man and his nephew. And they journey to the center of the earth. And there are dinosaurs. And a tornado? Shit—” The brow furrows again. “It might have been a tsunami. Something like that.”

The bookshelf was just as tall as Andrew so he could easily access the books there. The bookshelf had all sorts of books, ranging from fictional novels to nonfictional novels, to educational novels and textbooks. Her eyes caught titles like; The Redwall series by Brian Jacques, Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink, The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros and a lot more. Even the Encyclopedia was in his bookshelf. And there was also some novels on the basis of business and finance. The book the lad was currently reading was The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie.

“Quiet doesn’t mean unbothered. Just good at hiding it.” We fell into silence. The only sound was distant thunder rumbling above ground. I wondered how long we’d be down here. Minutes stretched. My mind wandered to how close he was. How alone we were. “Tell me something,” I said finally. “Why’d you become a librarian? You don’t seem like the type who likes being stuck behind a desk all day.” Mr. Kane exhaled softly. “Books don’t talk back. They don’t expect small talk. I like the order. And the stories. What about you? History major with a focus on obscure trade? That’s not common.”

he said. I turned to look at the large clock hanging on the wall behind me. It was already past ten at night. “Ah, I got excited. I didn't notice the time, Remus. I’ll keep these here and then I’ll go home.” I started picking up the books. Remus picked one up and read the cover. “The History of Werewolves and their Transformations. –Interesting topic,” he said, looking at the book. Then he looked at me. “Is there something that has been puzzling you, Miss Chloe?” he asked.

“Yes. Now tell me, just briefly, what all you’ve read.” “I have a cousin who is a professor of archaeology, another that is a professor of American literature and an aunt who teaches classic literature. There’s also an aunt who teaches ASL, an uncle who gives me an allowance on how many pages I read and another who is the dean over library sciences.” “Well, damn. What have you not read?” “Honestly, not much. Uncle Nate always recommends banned books. I get ten cents per page from my Uncle Owen, so I love the really thick books. And Cheryl pushes the history books.”

His eyes gloss over the titles of random green books on the shelves, pulling a few off that he thinks might have what he needs. He walks towards one of the tables with six books in hand. “Let's start with these books and see if we can find what we need within them.” With that we get straight to work, silently flipping through the pages of the books. Ten minutes later, I catch my Uncle shift his body up straight in his seat, excititment humming through his body. I drop the book I had been skimming through and move closer to Uncle Luc to look at the book he is currently holding. “I think I found it.” He exclaims, jumping from his seat.

I also bought earrings for me. “Baby, are you done…” I heard Uncle standing behind me with a shopping bag. “Yes…” I replied. “Let's go home,” Uncle said, taking my hand. “I want to visit the third floor,” I said, taking the stairs to the third floor, and tagging uncle with me. It was like was in some fair, so many activities were going on. I asked uncle to buy a teddy bear for me and he brought a teddy bear and also Mickey Mouse toys. I was enjoying the fair and something caught my attention. It was a lady with heavy makeup using a crystal ball and there were many cards she was a tarot card reader.

"This is a nightmare. Which ones should I bring?" I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "Okay, let's get the ones that can keep me sane. Sane. Not the emotionally damaging ones. Not the ones that ruined me. First of all, the series about Poseidon's son." I grabbed my entire collection of the series. "And the series which is the sequel to it." I hauled another bunch of books and all put them to the floor. "There's no way I'm leaving your books behind, Uncle Rick."
