The Hockey Star Regret
Every creak of a chair or shuffle of a bag behind me felt like another dart aimed at my back.
Then I heard the laughter.
A group of girls walked in, probably juniors, judging by their confidence, and took the row behind me. I recognized one of them from orientation.
“I swear, it was like a scene from a soap opera,” one said, loud enough for me to hear. “She totally flipped on him.”
“Isn’t he the hot new center for the hockey team?” another asked, fake-shocked. “Imagine having the audacity to scream at Hayden Michaels.”
“I kind of respect it,” a third voice added. “I heard he’s heavily loaded so she’s either fearless or stupid.”
