God, the books. I'd already used my employee discount twice. Once on a new romantasy release that had been all over BookTok. Once on a dark mafia romance that promised morally gray antiheroes and enemies-to-lovers tension. The irony wasn't lost on me. Tuesday night, I actually slept through the night for the first time in weeks. No nightmares. No waking up at three a.m. with anxiety clawing at my chest. Progress. I arch an eyebrow. Cal simply shrugs. “Well, everything in you screams bookworm. You work at a bookstore. It wasn’t that hard to figure that out, you know?” “Yeah, well… whatever. Can we get back to the main topic and the whole purpose of this conversation?” I snap, getting a bit worked up. I hate that I can’t be more composed in front of him. I’m not usually this arrogant, but this guy brings out feelings I didn’t even know I had in the first place.
