I think the classics are: the comfort re-read, the viral book of the month you feel obligated to try, the ‘I’ve owned this for years’ guilt-pick, a backlist title from a favorite author, and something completely out of your usual genre.

But the real fun starts with the super specific trope categories. ‘Touch her and die’ energy, fake dating, grumpy x sunshine, a ‘who did this to you’ moment. It’s less about the book itself sometimes and more about chasing a particular feeling. My TBR pile is basically just a mood board now.

Also, don’t forget the palate cleanser category. After a heavy fantasy or a devastating literary fiction, you need a slim romance or a graphic novel to reset.
