One I recognize immediately. Caroline’s shop. My throat tightens. The necklace is delicate—simple, silver, with a soft teardrop gem at the center. A children’s version of one of Caroline’s bestsellers. I remember the design. She once sketched it at home while I was working late in the living room. Back when we still lived together. Back when I still had the right to call her mine. “She said it’s special. That it’s for girls who want to protect their dreams,” the little girl whispers, clinging to the tablet. “I want that one.”

The moment I stood into the hut, I noticed a display; ancient-looking artifacts, silver rings with intricate designs, crystal vials, and, most intriguing of all, an old book standing with only its spine and front facing me, and a blood red ruby necklace sitting right next to it. I reached out, my fingers brushing against the beautiful gem the size of a grape and then over to spine of the book. I gently grabbed the book, my fingers grazing the pages which are filled with strange, elegant writing. I don’t recognize the symbols, but there is a familiar feeling to them—a familiar energy.
