I turned to the next page. "Given to… What?!" I turned the page back and forth. What was going on? There was no continuation. I looked at the spine carefully and saw that there was a bit of torn paper. A page was missing! Someone had ripped out the page! I was frantic. I was this close to finding the solution to our problem and now, it had been ripped away from my fingers like candy that had been snatched from a baby. I closed the book and sat up on my bed.

I go the opposite way, painstakingly reading each and every title. “Callie!” Alice exclaims excitedly. “I think I found something.” I hurry over, seeing her pull a smaller black book off the shelf. There’s no title on this book, only a gold Baphomet overlaid on the leather. “The Book of the Beast,” I whisper, eyes lighting up. “I think you did find something.” She cracks the spine and I lean over, heart racing. And then the library doors open and close with a boom, echoing throughout the entire room. Alice and I both jump, and she quickly shoves the book into her cloak.

I bring out the book and open it to prove her wrong, wondering what the hell is going on. "See? Words?" "That is what you see! Not what I see?" She brings our her phone and then takes a picture of the page I opened and then shows it to me. Fucking hell! "It's not—there is nothing there... On the picture..." I glance back at the book, "But it is on here." My hands are trembling as I lift my gaze back to Beryl. Something is wrong, I am absolutely confused. if this book is blank and hidden with acient magic as Beryl calls it and I can read it then something is definitely wrong.

I nodded, though my hands shook as I dug through the supply bag. Every stroke of makeup would be sealing Gabby’s fate. Every disguise turning her into bait. And Sophia? God, I couldn’t think about what I was allowing. I was no better than Matteo if I kept pretending the ends justified the means. “What if we’re wrong?” I whispered. “What if we’re sending them into hell, and no one comes back?” The door slammed open. Heavy footsteps thundered in. “WE HAVE…” Vincent barreled into the room, out of breath and wild-eyed. “We have a problem!”
