One of them shouted, “Yeah, c’mon nerd, play the game!”
Heat rushed to my face. My palms went damp.
“I don’t want to,” I said, my voice barely audible.
Serena tilted her head, her smile razor sharp. “One little dare. That’s all. Unless…” She let the pause hang heavy. “You’re too boring.”
The word cut like a knife.
Boring. Invisible. Forgettable. Always the background. Always the nothing.
My chest ached. “Fine,” I muttered.
Serena’s eyes gleamed with victory. She tapped her chin theatrically. “Hmm… what should I pick? Something easy? Something hard?” She dragged out the silence until everyone leaned in. Then she snapped her fingers. “I dare you… to kiss Ryder.”
