Ryder points to the one farthest away. "Closet," he states before moving to the door closest to us. "Bathroom."

He pushed the doors open. The study was a cathedral of power. Three walls were lined with leather-bound books that reached the twenty-foot ceiling, accessible by brass rolling ladders that caught the light. The fourth wall was pure glass, overlooking the very cliffs we had just left, making the room feel like it was floating over the abyss. In the centre of the room sat a heavy, U-shaped mahogany desk that looked old enough to have seen the rise and fall of empires.

The thought is a small, bitter comfort because nothing stings like betrayal. My gaze slides left and locks on the bookshelf. Old wood, a little scuffed, shelves stuffed with returned paperbacks and a few knick-knacks, mismatched bookends, a ceramic owl, a stack of defunct menus someone shoved in a hurry. The bottom shelf sags, the base leaning a fraction out from the wall. Whoever stocked it last time did a sloppy job. It is not anchored. My brain flips through possibilities like cards, fast and clean.

In the back of the room a floor to ceiling bookcase cover the whole wall, filled with books, a dream shelf for every book lover. A smirk creeps on my face as I make my way straight to his throne. Plotting down on the chair I fold my legs and rest it on his desk, knowing full well he can see my underwear. Lorenzo gulps as he approach me, with the tray in hand. He keeps his eyes set on the coffee cup balancing on the tray. “Sorry, is this your spot?” I ask flirtatiously.

Sage’s POV The library was less intimidating than the dining room-which wasn’t saying much, considering it was still the size of my entire apartment. Floor- to-ceiling bookshelves lined three walls, filled with leather-bound volumes that looked older than me. A fireplace crackled softly in the corner, and two oversized leather chairs faced each other near the windows. Kael guided me to one of the chairs and took the other. For a moment, we just sat there in silence.
