From inside came the steady hum of computers, the soft click of keyboards. I took a deep breath and edged closer to the door. Two figures stood at the central terminal-one on watch, the other furiously typing. Neither of them had changed, still in human form so they could access the computers. I knew the one at the keyboard: David Morrison, this pack's Alpha's computer expert. Which meant that the other one was. "Hello, Olivia," a low, smooth voice drawled. "I was wondering when you'd figure it out." Amelia stepped from behind the pillar, her nails-now talons long and sharp and stained a glittering scarlet-from the tips.

The breakfast had been strained with Ryder not saying a word, but chewing his food slowly and scrolling through the news on his iPad while she and her sister chit-chatted about random topics, which at the moment she couldn’t recall. My jaw tightens the moment I see it. “She’s still our best lead,” I say before he even opens his mouth. “Alice ran out of the pack that night. She made it through the forest and past the rogue zone. She saw something. Even if she doesn’t remember all of it, she saw something.”
