When we are one
For a moment, I swear he can feel the chaos in my chest, the lingering chill from the astral plane.
“I’m okay,” I manage, though my voice wavers. “It’s alright. I’m back.”
His hand brushes against my forehead—a soft, protective touch. It calms me for half a second. Then he stands, offering his hand to help me up.
I take it, but the second I’m on my feet, I pull away.
“Where’s Corbin?”
Briar hesitates. That pause is too long.
“He… left,” he says, trying to keep his tone light. “While you were still sleeping. Something about tracking rogues and investigating possible traitors among the pack.”
